Not all hand blown glass has a visible pontil mark, but most traditionally made hand blown glass pieces do. The pontil mark is created when the glass is broken off from the rod used during blowing; however, some glassmakers remove or polish the mark for a smoother finish, making it less noticeable or invisible.
